Manchester United have reportedly decided against signing a loanee permanently.

Manchester United have reportedly informed Serie A side Fiorentina that they would not trigger the purchase option embedded in Sofyan Amrabat’s contract; hence, he has returned to the club.

What happened

Amrabat joined the Red Devils in the summer of 2023 from the Florence-based club on a season-long loan deal, with an option to sign permanently for €20 million.

The Morocco international had an ill-fated start to his stint at the club, as he sustained an injury and was unavailable for selection for some games.

Although his quality shone through in some instances, his stint at the club was underwhelming and paled in comparison to the expectations his performance at the 2022 World Cup created amongst fans

According to a report from Tutto Mercado Web, Manchester United have decided not to continue with him, and he has now joined up with the rest of the Fiorentina squad for preseason training under new boss Raffaele Palladino.

However, Amrabat could still play in the Premier League next season, as although the Red Devils are uninterested, the Moroccan did enough to earn himself English suitors.

Meanwhile, the decision to let the player return to Fiorentina has been determined by the sporting arm of the club. Ten Hag is a fan of Amrabat, but, as he stated in a recent interview, some of his power in the club's transfer dealings has been taken away
