Pep Guardiola provided some insight into the incident that led to Riccardo Callafiori's goal in Manchester City's draw against Arsenal.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was visibly livid after his side conceded an equaliser to a brilliant Riccardo Calafiori strike, as he kicked the chair following the goal.

After the match, he provided some insight into his angry reaction, as he faulted refereeing protocol for the goal they conceded.

Manchester City 2 vs 2 Arsenal

Manchester City drew first blood in the encounter. Haaland slipped into gear inside ten minutes courtesy of Savio's clever through-ball. The Norwegian's finish was ice-cool, handing the champions an early advantage.

Arsenal pulled level against the run of play in the 22nd minute when new recruit Riccardo Calafiori unleashed a thunderbolt that left City reeling. The goal came after a quick free kick from Arsenal, releasing Martinelli into the space vacated by Kyle Walker. The Brazilian cut the ball back to Calafiori, who curled the ball away from Ederson and into the goal.

The Gunners then seized the initiative on the stroke of halftime, Gabriel Magalhaes's towering header sending them into the ascendancy.

But Mikel Arteta's men were left reeling just seconds later, as Trossard's dismissal in first-half stoppage time left them facing an uphill battle. Forced to circle the wagons, Arsenal somehow managed to keep City at bay—until John Stones popped up with a late leveller, ensuring the spoils were shared in a pulsating encounter.

What Guardiola said

“Next time, we’ll not go to talk to the referee,” he said. “Kyle Walker was just right. The referee asked him to come to talk to him and the other ones, and when that happens, some players have to be close to the ball, and we have to readjust the back-four, but they didn't have time.

“But Kyle arrived in the position, and after Calafiori made a good goal. But we knew that always every free-kick that they contact quick with the wingers and they are really good with Saka and Martinelli, and I don't like the back-four when it's a foul and they move on.

“When the referee says, Come to talk to me... at least leave him to come back to the position. Because next time, we will not go to talk to them.”
