Enyimba held off Etoile Filante in the CAFCC to become the only Nigerian representative left in the continent.

Nigerian football club Enyimba has advanced to the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup after a thrilling victory against Etoile Filante. 

Pulse Sports Nigeria reported that the match, which ended goalless after full-time, was decided by a tense penalty shootout in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, on Sunday evening.

The People’s Elephant failed to convert their chances after a dominant display and were forced into a penalty shootout where they emerged 3-2 winners, with goalkeeper Nathaniel Asibe the star.

Following their triumph, Enyimba took to social media to express their elation, posting and trolling their visitors on their X (formerly Twitter).

"WE'RE CHOSEN! Etoile Filante, WHO ARE YOU? Goalless at full time, BUT WE REIGNED SUPREME IN PENALTIES! WE'RE HEADED STRAIGHT TO THE GROUP STAGES"

The jubilant message reflects the team's excitement at overcoming their opponents and securing a place in the next round of the prestigious African club competition.

Enyimba's victory marks another step forward in their campaign for continental glory, with the People’s Elephant now Nigeria’s sole representative in the continent.

Fans of the Nigerian side will undoubtedly be eagerly anticipating the group stage draw, where Enyimba will learn their next opponents in their quest for the CAF Confederation Cup title.

Enyimba dominated but failed to convert their chances.

Meanwhile, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Ibrahim Gusau, has congratulated the Elephants for their win against Filante.

The leader of the football governing body led a team of stakeholders to Uyo to show support for Nigeria’s most successful football club.

Speaking to the players in the dressing room, Gusau described the win as hard-fought and promised to support the team in their quest for success in the next phase of the competition.

“Please, let us know as early as possible, we will support you," he told the Elephants.
