Former Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has expressed his discontent on the Balon d'Or final rankings, hinting at former teammate Vinicius Junior missing out on the prestigious award.

Retired Real Madrid star Toni Kroos has shared his thoughts on the final Ballon d’Or shortlist, hinting that he disagrees with the selection.

Kroos responded to a post by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, who had asked fans what they would change in the final rankings.

Kroos replied, "Where do I start?" signaling his discontent with the choices.

One of the points of contention has been Kroos’ former Real Madrid teammate, Vinicius Junior who missed out on the prestigious award.

The Brazilian had been hot-favorite due to his impressive Champions League performance, with six goals and four assists, along with 20 goal involvements in La Liga.

However, the Ballon d'Or ultimately went to Manchester City's Rodri, who played a pivotal role in securing his club's Premier League title and Spain’s Euro 2024 victory.

This led to Vinicius and Real Madrid to skip the Ballon d'Or ceremony in Paris, disappointed that neither he nor teammate Dani Carvajal took home the honor.

Kroos has previously voiced his criticism of individual awards in football, stating they have "no place" in a team-oriented sport, and calling the Ballon d’Or irrelevant in his eyes.

According to Goal.com, the former German international maintains that the prize is redundant in a team sport, although that may be a view informed by the fact his former teammate lost out on the prestigious award.

Kroos himself ranked ninth in this years' award, rounding of the list of Real Madrid's players who ranked in the top 10, alongside Vinicius, Jude Bellingham, Dani Carvajal and Kylian Mbappe.
