Rivers United reacts
However, Rivers United Media officer Mayuku Charles, in a statement explained the controversy surrounding the club's kit.
“We arrived in Yamoussoukro, Cote D’Ivoire, with the team’s registered colors of white and blue. However, at the pre-match meeting, the home team presented all white for outfield players and pink/pink/blue socks for the goalkeeper. We presented all blue for our outfield players, resulting in a clash of colors for the socks.”
“According to the rules, in case of a clash of colors, the away team is required to change. We requested that, for fairness and sportsmanship, the home team change only the goalkeeper’s socks, but they refused. With less than 48 hours to kickoff, we had no choice but to source green socks from the market.”
