The Nigerian star has answered critics who questioned his ability in front of goal
Rangers forward Cyriel Dessers has been under fire recently despite his impressive performances for the Scottish side.
His goal in a 1-1 draw against Olympiacos helped Rangers earn a point in the Europa League, but fans were quick to point out two missed opportunities that could have secured a victory for the Scottish giants.
Dessers strong response to critics
Dessers, however, responded defiantly, brushing off the criticism and asserting his place among strikers who, like any others, sometimes miss chances.
In response to the critics, Dessers confidently addressed these comments, referencing the challenges even top players face.
“I watched the Champions League this week and I see unbelievable strikers miss chances,” he said. “Who am I to not miss chances? If I scored three a game, I probably wouldn't be at Rangers."
Dessers’ goal against Olympiacos marked his ninth of the season, along with three assists in 19 matches, and the Nigerian striker added his 10th against Hearts, netting in his third match in a row
Calls grow for Dessers' inclusion in Super Eagles squad
While Dessers has been left out of Nigeria’s latest Super Eagles squad in favour of Real Sociedad’s Sadiq Umar and Sevilla’s Kelechi Iheanacho—neither of whom has scored this season—many fans argue he deserves a spot due to his impressive form.
As a proven scorer for Rangers, Dessers has consistently delivered for his club and could bring a much-needed eye for goal to Nigeria's frontline, which has recently struggled with consistency.
For now, however, Dessers remains outside the Super Eagles roster. But with each goal and strong performance, he continues to make a compelling case for his inclusion, showing that he has what it takes to impact Nigeria’s attack at the international level.
