Why Barcelona cannot loan out Olmo, Pau Victor amid registration debacle

Barcelona find themselves in a messy situation as they are unable to register two of their summer signings.

Barcelona remain unable to register two of their summer signings, Dani Olmo and Pau Victor. This means they are not available for the Blaugrana to field in the second half of the season, which raised questions on if both players can be sent out on short-term loans.

What's happening with Olmo and Victor

Last summer, Barcelona made a significant splash in the transfer market, securing the services of Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig in a staggering €58 million deal, and signed Victor permanently from Girona for a lesser fee after he shone with Barca Athletic last term.

However, their excitement was short-lived, as the club soon realised they lacked the necessary wiggle room in their wage bill to formally register both players.

A stroke of luck arrived when Andreas Christensen suffered a long-term injury, allowing Barcelona to utilise the Danish defender's allocated space on the team's roster to temporarily register Olmo and Victor.

Nevertheless, with Christensen's impending return, Barcelona faced a daunting deadline to permanently register them ahead of the second half of the season. Unfortunately, they fell short.

Undeterred, Barcelona remain optimistic that they can still find a solution to the registration conundrum. The club has been tirelessly working to inject additional finances into their coffers, which would provide the necessary breathing room to formalise their registrations.

Can they be loaned out?

While Olmo is able to leave as a free agent, his agent, Andy Bara, has stated quite clearly that the midfielder is committed to Barcelona and that they were not entertaining talks with other clubs. Victor, on the other hand, has no such clause.

With both players unable to play as it stands, it begs the question if they can be sent out on loan for the remainder of the season before they can be registered next summer.

Nowhere, the answer is no, as Spanish regulations mandate that players must be RFEF registered before they can be entered into trade deals, loans included.
