Tusker are set to face unbeaten FC Talanta on Sunday with coach Charles Okere confident of securing crucial points.

After a long international break, Tusker FC are set to return to action this Sunday in a crucial encounter against FC Talanta at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

The match, scheduled for 1pm and broadcast live on Azam TV, will be the first test for Tusker after their recent 1-1 draw against Kenya Police.

In a pre-match interview, Tusker coach Charles Okere expressed confidence that his team is ready to bounce back, despite a mixed start to the season.

"We know it's not an easy game because Talanta has started the season well and they have not lost in the two games they have played. But we are focusing more on what we can do as a team to get three points," said Okere, reflecting on his team's focus ahead of the fixture.

Tusker, currently sitting sixth on the FKF Premier League table with five points from four games will be looking to climb higher in the standings with a win on Sunday.

The Brewers have not won in their last three outings, losing 3-2 to Kariobangi Sharks and drawing 2-2 with Kakamega Homeboyz before their stalemate against Kenya Police.

However, Okere believes the international break has provided his side with the opportunity to regroup and return stronger.

"The international break has been a blessing in disguise because most players who had injuries are returning. Kibande, Ogam, and Luvanda have all resumed training though Sunday might be too early for them to be back," Okere added.

One player who has particularly impressed the Tusker head coach is new signing Ryan Wesley Ogam.

The striker has made an immediate impact scoring three goals in four matches.

Despite their current form, Tusker will face a stern challenge from FC Talanta, who have started the season strongly and remain unbeaten in their two matches.

Talanta have steadily improved over the last few seasons and will be looking to build on their momentum when they visit Machakos.

The head-to-head history between Tusker and Talanta has seen mixed results in recent years.

While Tusker enjoyed dominance in the earlier stages of their rivalry, including victories in 2021 and 2022, Talanta has shown significant growth, culminating in a stunning 3-1 victory over Tusker in April 2024.

Tusker will also need to be cautious of Talanta’s resilient defense and their ability to counterattack swiftly.

However, Okere remains focused on his team's abilities and is confident that if they execute their game plan they can walk away with all three points.

"We respect Talanta, but the focus is on ourselves. We need to play to our strengths and stay sharp throughout the match. It's all about the effort we put in as a team."
