Gor Mahia boss Johnathan McKinstry is wary of Salim Babu's no-nonsense Kenya Police as his charges prepare for their clash against Shabana this weekend.
Gor Mahia head coach Johnathan McKinstry has revealed why he is wary of Kenya Police with the 2023/2024 FKFPL season approaching its final stretch.
K’ogalo are currently first on the standings after 28 games, sitting on 60 points, nine ahead of Police, who have been in impeccable form since Salim Babu took charge of the club on an interim basis.
Police are also in the semi finals of the FKF Cup, where they will be squaring up against AFC Leopards on May 26.
McKinstry highlighted the importance of maintaining Gor Mahia's approach, pointing out the team's consistency since the beginning of last season.
“We have to keep the approach we have had since the start of last season. For us, if you look since August 2022, we have been the most consistent team in Kenya,” McKinstry remarked ahead of Gor Mahia’s match in Kisumu.
He emphasized Gor Mahia's ability to bounce back from setbacks, avoiding prolonged losing streaks and instead focusing on stringing together wins to maintain their position at the top of the table.
“We might have had the occasional draw and losses, although not many, but we have immediately bounced back and then put a run of wins together. We have never been one of those teams that have lost two or three games in a row.
“That consistency is what has seen us get back to the number one position and consolidate our position.”

“There are 18 points to play for . Police in second place are in a great run of form. They have been the on-form team, slightly ahead of us since Christmas time and we have got to make sure we keep our foot on the accelerator.
“If we think too early to celebrate, they will be right on our tails.”
