Lookman shines vs Real Madrid
The 27-year-old put on another solid display for the Europa League winners during their five-goal thriller against the defending champions on Tuesday night.
Lookman scored his 11th goal of the season and third in five Champions League matches this season in a narrow 2-3 defeat at home in Bergamo to Carlo Ancelotti’s men.
The fantastic strike, scored in the 65th minute, gave Atalanta hope of taking a share of the spoils with 25 minutes to go, but it ended up being nothing but a consolation.
After the match, Lookman, who finished 14th in the 2024 Ballon d’Or award and is the favourite to be named African Player of the Year, spoke to CBS Sports’ Richard on the secret behind his impressive form.
On Playing well
“I mean, it’s timing,” Lookman replied after Micah asked him why he is playing the best football of his career.
“I think over these past two and a half years, I have been able to have a consistency in playing and obviously, that’s come into my game and been able to improve and show that in my game and you know it comes with the circumstances as well.”
Lookman’s performance against Real saw him complete 88% of his passes, create two chances, two key passes, and three shots.
He also made three dribbles, two recoveries and had 10 touches inside the Real box to earn the award as player of the match.
The Nigerian’s goal was his second in as many matches after he also scored the winner in the pulsating affair against AC Milan at the weekend which fired Atalanta to the top of the Serie A before Los Blancos came calling.
