Former Sweden head coach, Janne Olof Andersson has explained why he turned down the chance to manage the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Janne Andersson was one of the candidates to take over from Jose Peseiro as new Super Eagles head coach but reportedly turned down the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).
Andersson managed the Sweden national team from 2016 - 2023, a period which is viewed as the most successful since the early 90s.
He guided them to their best-ever performance at a World Cup, as they made it to the quarter-final of the 2018 in Russia, losing out to England.

Speaking to Swedish newspaper Hallandsposten.about the situation, Andersson said;
"Nigeria was very persistent and wanted me to take the job.

"There were many appealing aspects, but the overall situation wasn’t perfect. It didn’t feel 100 percent right, and it has to feel that way for me to fully commit."
"It would take a lot for me to take on a new coaching job, I am selective and have other things going on, like mentorship and board roles."
Andersson wasn't the only candidate in the running, however. The NFF also held talks with Bruno Labbadia and Herve Renard, among others, but a permanent coach is yet to be appointed.
In the meantime, Augustine Eguavoen remains in temporary charge and will lead Nigeria against Libya in the upcoming AFCON 2025 qualification double header.
