MckInstry has admitted Gor Mahia are working on staying focused and concentrated and not in bits if they are to be as defensively resolute as they were last season.

Gor Mahia coach Johnathan McKinstry is worried about his side’s tendency to be error prone this season as a mistake by Geoffrey Simiti Ochieng denied them all three points against KCB in an FKFPL match played at the Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday.

K'Ogalo had to rely on Rogers Mugisha’s goal in the 88th minute to rescue a point against the Bankers after being a goal down for much of the match after Apollo Otieno found a pocket of space, turned and fired a powerful effort into the bottom left-hand corner in the 16th minute.

Speaking after the match, McKinstry revealed he was worried that the side were dropping a lot of points due to unnecessary mistakes which need correcting if the side are to win their 21st league title this season.

“Absolutely. We need to cut them out, that is very clear,” McKinstry said. “You know it is frustrating and counts in essence because Geoffrey (Ochieng’) is a player that does not tend to do that kind of thing," he added.

“It would be different if someone did it all the time. You know he is not meant to do it and he knows. He does not need to be told you need to cut out those simple mistakes.

“There are some teams in this league who want to try and win against K’ogalo and others that are really happy with a point. If you give them a goal like that, they are going to seat in and it is going to be a really difficult afternoon.”

“We got a point today (against KCB) and we are pleased that we were able to get back into the game but you are right, we need to cut out those mistakes.

MckInstry has admitted his side are working on staying focused and concentrated and not in bits if they are to be as defensively resolute as they were last season.

“That is something we are working on. We have spoken to the players about that and we are working on that, but we need to get better.”

“We need to cut out those simple mistakes. We did not really have those last season. We had 20 clean sheets last season. We have only kept one clean sheet this season.”

Gor Mahia will be hoping to get the better of their arch rivals AFC Leopards when they face each other in the Mashemeji derby this weekend.
