AFC Leopards Coach Tom Juma stays determined amid winless streak, emphasizing team cohesion and the path to future success.

AFC Leopards head coach Tom Juma remains steadfast in his belief that progress is being made within the team, despite a frustrating winless streak in the ongoing season.

The team faced a bitter defeat at the hands of arch-rivals Gor Mahia in a high-stakes Mashemeji derby, where Benson Omalla scored twice to secure victory for Gor Mahia.

This defeat prompted a chorus of calls for Juma's resignation, as the club's winless run stretched to six matches.

"In terms of team cohesion, there has been a significant improvement. As you may know, half of the team is new, and it takes time for players to gel and play as a cohesive unit, so things don't happen overnight. However, if you look at our games up to now, you can see a substantial improvement in terms of team cohesion,” coach Juma emphasized.

Juma acknowledged the frustration of the fans and the disappointing results but was quick to point out that the losses were not indicative of poor performance overall.

"We are not getting results…but we didn't lose because we are poor. It is just because we made several mistakes. It is a tough loss we did not expect, but again it just happens in football,” he said.

Reflecting on the match against Gor Mahia, Juma highlighted the effectiveness of the opposition's offensive transitions.

"Gor Mahia were good in offensive transitions. Immediately they won the ball in the midfield areas, they quickly looked to attack, and it was effective because they have a quick striker and two quick wingers,” he added.

Tom Juma assumed his role as head coach after the departure of Belgian coach Patrick Aussems at the end of the previous season. The team is now gearing up for their next match against Bandari on Sunday, 22nd October, following the FIFA international break.

AFC Leopards, a club with a rich history, last clinched a league title in 1998. Since then, their journey has been marked by ups and downs, with only two FKF Cup triumphs in recent years, in 2013 and 2017, offering solace to their devoted fan base.
