Nigerian national team stalwart, Wilfred Ndidi, is set to sign a contract extension and continue at Leicester.

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is reportedly set to sign a contract extension with Leicester despite having multiple suitors looking to snap him up on a free transfer

What happened

The 27-year-old midfielder is currently a free agent after letting his Leicester City contract run out last month. The former Genk man was an integral part of Enzo Maresca's side that won the championship and returned the Foxes to the Premier League.

Ndidi joined the club in 2017 and signed a long-term contract extension a year later. The deal was set to end last season, and when Leicester reportedly placed an extension on the table, Ndidi stalled.

The midfielder was thought to desire an exit, and he was not lacking of suitors. He has been linked with clubs like Aston Villa, Everton and Fenerbahce. However, he seems to have taken a U-turn and is now set to continue with the 2015 Premier League winners.

Ndidi set to sign new deal

According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Ndidi is close to signing a three-year contract extension with Leicester, valid until 2027.

Per the report, only formalities are remaining and the deal will be signed soon. Also, Ndidi is said to have more than five offers on the table but has chosen to sign an extension with Leicester.

However, his suitors will have a chance to return for him, as his new contract is said to have a release clause included.
