Wilfred Ndidi was out for three months and was missed by his club Leicester City and the Super Eagles at AFCON 2023.

Wilfred Ndidi has thanked Nigerian fans, officials and the country's minister of sports for their support during his "difficult time" out injured over the past few months.

The Leicester City midfielder missed the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after being sidelined between late December and early March with a hamstring problem.

He went on to praise the "unusual path" taken by the Minister of Sports, John Enoh, for "monitoring ALL Nigerian sportsmen, especially during injury and time off."

Ndidi added: "I thank him for his help during a very difficult time in my life. Injuries are both physical and psychological."

The Nigerian international also expressed his gratitude to the country's Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, who Ndidi says offered "love and encouragement during difficult times."

Ndidi played a key role in helping Leicester secure an immediate return to the Premier League after being part of their relegation last season.

He scored four goals and provided five assists from a new advanced midfield position as the Foxes won the Championship title.

His absence was keenly felt also by Nigeria’s Super Eagles, who however made it through to the final of the 2023 AFCON in his absence.

But Ndidi is now back in action and says he is "greatly encouraged to participate in sports development and wearing the green and white jersey of this beautiful country."
