Leicester City have now lost 8 of their last 10 games without Wilfred Ndidi and the threat of relegation is becoming a reality.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy's side suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat at the hands of David Moyes' Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.

This defeat pushed the Foxes down into the relegation zone, undoing the morale-boosting win against Tottenham last weekend.

Van Nistelrooy's men were lackluster, devoid of energy, ambition, and fight. They struggled to win second balls and failed to show any spark, leading to an embarrassing defeat.

One thing was clear: the absence of Nigeria's Wilfred Ndidi in midfield has left a gaping hole, making it easy for opponents to play through them.

A comparison of Leicester's performances with and without Ndidi shows how important he is.

In the Foxes' last 10 games with Ndidi in the starting lineup, their record is (W4, D4, L2).

In contrast, they have lost 8 of the 10 games played since his injury, with only 2 wins.

Ndidi has also contributed 1 goal and 4 assists in his 16 matches this season, including multiple game-breaking plays and an ability to carry the ball upfield better than every other player in the squad.

He is also top 5 in the Premier League for defensive actions among midfielders, according to DataMB, and his ability to carry out the requirements of the box-to-box role sets him far apart from his teammates.

In his absence, the likes of Harry Winks and Boubakary Soumare have tried and failed to replicate his presence and physicality in the middle of the park.

Van Nistelrooy has confirmed that Ndidi is close to returning from his injury and insisted the club will count on him to provide the stability they currently miss.

It is clear that if Leicester are to have any chance of avoiding relegation, Ndidi must play a huge role. His return cannot come soon enough for the Foxes.
