Having previously expressed his commitment to a European career over money when considering Victor Osimhen’s potential move to Al Ahli, the 22-year-old must come to terms with his words now that he has to decide his future.
Boniface’s comments about leaving Europe for Saudi Arabia
Boniface’s stance on Saudi Arabia's lucrative offers has been clear in past interviews. When asked if he would consider moving for a big payday, he confidently replied, “No, not now, I’m not thinking of that right now.”
At the time when the debate was in high gear, with Osimhen narrowly missing out on a move to Al Ahli in the Suadi Pro League, Boniface revealed that his focus was firmly on his European career, which has already rewarded him with Bundesliga and DFB Pokal titles.
Unlike Osimhen, who was reportedly open to joining Al Ahli last summer, Boniface had emphasised building his legacy in Europe before moving for financial purposes, saying, “Your career in Europe is also cash. When the time for more money comes, I will think about it.”
However, with reports emerging of advanced talks between Bayer Leverkusen and Al Nassr, Boniface’s resolve is now under scrutiny.
Boniface faced with tough Al Nassr decision
Less than a year after Boniface’s initial comments, Saudi Pro League powerhouse Al Nassr has reportedly tabled an official approach for Boniface, looking to replace Anderson Talisca, who recently departed for Fenerbahce.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the developments, saying, “Understand Al Nassr have started official talks for Victor Boniface as a new striker! Negotiations are ongoing with Bayer Leverkusen for the Nigerian forward.”
Leverkusen has placed a hefty €50 million price tag on Boniface, though reports suggest the fee could rise significantly.
Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso acknowledged the situation, saying, “There are discussions with the club; we have to wait. Our preparation for the game remains the same,” as Boniface’s absence from training fuelled speculation about an imminent transfer.
