The midfielder leaves Galway United after making 91 appearances for the club.
Kenyan midfielder Wilson Waweru has completed his move to fellow Irish First Division side Cobh Ramblers from Galway United on a season-long loan.
The 22-year-old joined Galway United from Mervue United back in 2017 and went on to make 91 appearances, scoring 18 goals since making his debut in 2018.
Galway United confirmed the exit of Waweru on loan for the rest of the 2023 season as they went on to highlight some of the achievements he posted while at the club.
“After sporadic appearances across the 2019 and 2020 seasons, Waweru became a key player under John Caulfield in 2021, scoring eight goals and cementing himself as a fan favourite.
A further five goals followed last season, including a crucial equaliser against Cork City in front of a full house at Eamonn Deacy Park in September. Everyone at the club wishes Wilson the best for the season to come,” read a statement from the club.
Waweru had an outstanding season last campaign as he helped Galway United secure a Playoff berth which they failed to win against Waterford as they again fell short of promotion to the Premier League.
Cobh Ramblers were euphoric about the signing of Waweru as the club continues to chase for promotion to the Irish top tier.
“We are delighted to announce the loan signing of Galway United attacker Wilson Waweru for the 2023 First Division season.
Capable as a winger and an attacker, Wilson came through the underage setup at Mervue United before joining the Tribesmen academy,” read a statement from Ramblers.
