With over a dozen players sidelined, manager Franck Haise has been forced to include staff members in training sessions to make up the numbers, leaving the French outfit with an uphill battle to stay competitive in both domestic and European campaigns.
Nice’s injury woes reach breaking point
Nice’s ongoing injury struggles reached a climax following their UEFA Europa League clash against Rangers.
Already short-handed heading into the match, the situation deteriorated further during the 4-1 defeat, with Youssouf Ndayishimiye adding to a long list of casualties.
Speaking after the match, Nice coach Haise lamented, “I am without 12 players, and then 13 from the 15-minute mark. It is too much for us.
The manager revealed that even those available, such as Mohamed-Ali Cho, Evann Guessand, and Tanguy Ndombele, were not fully fit, further limiting his options.
Training crisis forces unconventional solutions
Nice’s list of sidelined players also includes key contributors such as Terem Moffi, Melvin Bard, Jonathan Clauss, and Morgan Sanson.
The lack of fit players has extended beyond matchday headaches to logistical issues in training. Haise explained that even with youth players called up, the squad is too thin to conduct full tactical sessions.
“We don’t have a group of 20 players to work with an opposition (10-v-10) in a tactical way, so I’ll integrate staff members for the free-kicks,” Haise admitted.
This improvisation only goes to show the severity of Nice’s predicament. With the winter break still weeks away, the club will need to soldier through their remaining fixtures with a patchwork lineup and hope for reinforcements during the January transfer window.
