The competition is part of activities lined up to celebrate this year's International Women's Day slated for March.
FAME Foundation is getting ready to hold its second annual Women's Day football tournament.
The foundation has called on Civil Society Organisations to begin to register their teams ahead of the 2023 edition of the tournament slated for March 8, 2023.
This much Pulse Sports Nigeria can report following a press release by the Abuja-based organisation on Wednesday evening.
"We're calling on members of the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), to register their interest to participate at the tournament," the statement stated.
While the competition will be held for the second time this year, this is the first time the foundation's colleagues in the CSO community will be getting an open call.
What you need to know
The Fame foundation was established to solicit, encourage and advance the social, emotional and economic wellbeing of women and girls.
Also, the organisation formulates programmes within the framework of national development plan with a view to enhancing the participation of women and advocate for gender parity in the society.
Last year, it held the 2022 Women's Day Football tournament which was well-attended in Abuja.
Some of the famous names who attended included byt not limited to former Super Eagles star, Daniel Amokachi, Emmanuel Babayaro, Dame Pauline Kedem Tallen, Minister of Women Affairs, and Comfort Lamptey, UN Women Country Representative kicking off the event with a handshake.
For 2023
Prospective participants are expected to take note of the following players criteria ahead of the tournament;
- Female
- 18 – 60 years of age
- Minimum of 15 and Maximum of 17 players (including a captain and goalkeeper)
- Non-professional footballers
- Women in good health and well-being
- Based in Abuja or its environs.
- Team player
The tournament will take place at the Area 3 Football Pitch, Area 2, Garki, starting from 8am and ending at 3pm.
