James Rodriguez departs Olympiacos after mutual termination
Star of the 2014 World Cup, James Rodriguez, has terminated his contract with Greek Club Olympiacos with immediate effect, ending his short relationship with the club.
James has been at Olympiacos for less than a year after joining the club in September 2022, leaving Everton in 2021 and briefly with Al-Rayyan in the Saudi Pro League.
James’ stock continues to plummet after Olympiacos exit
The former Monaco midfielder was one of the star performers of the World Cup in Brazil, scoring six goals and taking home the Golden Boot as Colombia advanced to the quarterfinals, prompting Real Madrid to take a chance on him by paying a €90 million fee for the midfielder.

While at Madrid, Rodriguez showed promise, contributing to the Spanish team's two additional Champions League victories while tallying 37 goals and 42 assists.
However, his stock has fallen steadily since he left Real Madrid, where he struggled for playing time.
Before leaving Los Blancos, James had loan spells at Bayern Munich but ultimately left the Spanish capital for Merseyside, joining former manager Carlo Ancelotti.
Olympiacos announce contract termination
He spent only one season with the Toffees, before moving to Al-Rayyan in Qatar, and only moved to Olympiacos after terminating his contract there.
James’ short stint with Olympiacos saw him score five goals and provide six assists in 22 games, but a combination of fitness issues, how high his wages were at the club, and what they regarded as underperformance by their player led to his release.
The statement released by the club stated, "Olympiacos FC and James Rodriguez have decided to terminate their cooperation.
“James will always be part of our club and a member of the ‘red-and-white’ family. We want to thank him for his service, and we wish him every success in the future.”
It is unclear where James might pitch his tent next, but the fall from grace the Colombian has been monumental.
