Wrexham returned to League Two for the first time in 15 seasons but it ended in a smashing home defeat to MK Dons.
Jonathan Leko was the tormentor-in-chief as MK Dons welcomed Wrexham back to League Two with a baptism of fire.
A Leko-inspired Dons came, saw and thrashed their hosts Wrexham following an eight-goal thriller in their backyard at Stok Cae on Saturday.
Dons earned a 5-3 win over the Red Dragons to hand the home side a crushing return to League Two after over a decade.
Wrexham served a hostile return
In what was their first game in the division in 15 years, the Red Dragons went into the game in a confident mood backed by their Hollywood owners.
However, after 90 minutes of action, it was Dons who ran away with a heavy victory inspired by Leko.
The forward scored a brace and assisted another of the five goals scored by the visitors.
Wrexham started on a very poor note, conceding two goals in the opening 10 minutes as Dons looked comfortable and ruthless.
Jacob Mendy pulled one back to give the Reds a fighting chance heading into the break.
But the Dragons conceded another early goal in the second half as Leko restored the two-goal cushion before he made it 4-1 with his second just after the hour mark.
Jordan Davies pulled another back for Wrexham, who went on to concede a fifth in added time while Anthony Forde pulled back a third goal to make the scoreline look respectable.
