Xcalibur Foundation, MTN Uganda, Real Madrid Foundation, and Youth Sport Uganda have partnered to develop the MTN Naguru Social Sports Academy, a program aimed at developing and educating vulnerable children, youth, and women through sports, culture, and training.
The program's focus is to instill lifelong education and training of vulnerable communities using the value and power of sport as a pedagogical and motivational tool.
After nine months of project implementation, the MTN Naguru Social Sports Academy program will be inaugurated with a 2023 Opening Ceremony to welcome the new school year and strengthen the collaboration between the stakeholders.

The clinic is an opportunity for the academy's participants to learn from some of the best football coaches in the world, and develop their skills further.
The project takes place at the public school Naguru Katali Primary School, in the Nakawa district, Kampala. The coaches, the social worker and school teachers have been trained under the unique and pioneering methodology of the Real Madrid Foundation for education in values
"This event is a very special occasion for us," said avier Lezcano, Executive Director at Xcalibur Foundation ahead of the event.
"We celebrate the second year of this project, which involves 166 wonderful boys and girls, who are proving every day their learning on the most important part of our mission, which is to educate them and train them to be better people.
The project has had a significant impact since its launch in May 2022, directly impacting 166 vulnerable children, 84 girls and 82 boys, through their sport and socio-educational program.
Additionally, more than 350 individual people have been indirectly impacted, including school children, teachers, families, and the Naguru community.
The project includes six children with special needs, and the children have increased their school attendance since joining the project.
The initiative has already seen an improvement in school attendance since joining the project, with over 300 sessions of football training in values education completed and more than 200 home visits carried out.
Participants in the program receive two sessions of 1.5 hours per week, focusing on basic football training sessions with a monthly emphasis on different values.
The program aims to convey, using games and sport, educational values and life skills like teamwork, respect, self-esteem, equality, motivation, and autonomy.
Additionally, it aims to develop basic football technical skills through exercises, games, tactics, and contribute to a psycho-social-emotional well-being by addressing issues such as health, nutrition, relationships, personal hygiene, etc.
To achieve this, the program has completed 300 sessions of football training in values education, and 450 hours of football training in values education.
Participants have also received personal hygiene kits, sanitary towels, more than 200 home visits have been completed, and one CSR event with MTN has been carried out.
