Spain vs Switzerland

Switzerland burst out of the blocks but failed to capitalise before Spain settled in. Just four minutes in, Lamine Yamal left Remo Freuler trailing to deliver a precise chip to the far post, where Joselu headed home despite Gregor Kobel's valiant efforts. There was a VAR check after the goal, but it was determined that the Dortmund goalie did not get enough behind the ball in time.

The hosts responded swiftly, but Becir Omeragic's tap-in after a surging run from Breel Embolo was chalked off due to a handball in the build-up. Yamal again orchestrated Spain's second goal, winning possession with a bit of luck, before releasing Nico Williams, whose shot was saved but followed up by Fabian Ruiz.

Luis de la Fuente's side seemed to be cruising, but Robin Le Normand's straight red card for felling Embolo, who proved a handful all game, sparked a Swiss resurgence. Zeki Amdouni's free-kick rattled the bar, and he later halved the deficit by tapping in Embolo's header from a corner.

Despite dominating possession, Switzerland's momentum waned in second half. Spain then landed a decisive double blow, as David Raya's long ball sent Ferran Torres racing down the right to cross for Ruiz's second, before Joselu’s through pass caught Switzerland cold, allowing Torres to seal the win.

Yamal surpasses Vinicius

The 17-year-old was undoubtedly the standout player in the match. His assist took him to 11 goal contributions (3 goals, 8 assists) in 17 games for La Roja.

The assist took him past Real Madrid Vinicius, who has only managed 10 goal contributions (5 goals, 5 assists) for Brazil in 34 matches.
