How Arsenal missed out on the chance to sign 'the next Patrick Vieira' Yaya Toure in 2003
Toure, who went on to become a Manchester City great, had the chance to follow in his brother Kolo's footsteps of signing for Arsenal in 2003, but the move never materialised.
What Toure said
Toure, in a conversation with Rio Ferdinand, revealed that the club consulted him when making transfer plans, and he suggested that they sign Kun Aguero and David Silva, whom he knew well from his time in LALIGA, and Samir Nasri, who was making waves with Arsenal.
"Because of my experience, my knowledge, there was asking me 'Who do you think would be good for us?' I'm saying Aguero, Samir Nasri, David Silva as well,” Toure said on Rio Ferdinand Presents. “A lot of players, because there was that trust. I was very pleased with it.”

The three players he named went on to be integral in creating the modern Manchester City, winning a combined 32 trophies with the club.
Aguero is arguably the greatest player in the club's history and is their top scorer of all time in the Premier League. David Silva is 7th on the list of City's top scorers in the Premier League, while Nasri is 25th.
