Tusker have their fate in own hands after holding Gor Mahia to a barren draw to preserve league leadership.
Tusker head coach Robert Matano has kept the war of words with AFC Leopards head coach Patrick Aussems going after Tusker drew 0-0 with Gor Mahia in a ‘title deciding’ league encounter played at the Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Tusker played and pressed aggressively against Kogalo and created alot of goalscoring opportunities, which coach Johnathan McKinstry admitted “surprised them” considering the Brewers have developed a reputation for playing ‘safety-first’ football that is not aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
This prompted Aussems to label Matano a ‘juju man’ who plays ‘outdated football’.

“There are moments in football where you can be up and down, however, the most important thing is to establish consistency. We contained Gor Mahia to the extent they started playing long balls. Even Gor Mahia can play long balls. I thought it was only Tusker!” Matano cheekily lamented.
“ Coaches have been criticizing me about how we have been playing bad football but we actually played better against the Mzungu person so, you cannot kill a lion with stones but with an armed weapon!

“We have proved him wrong, he did not say what he said, but now he can say what he says!”
The lion as he is commonly known in local football circles was not pleased with the decision by the assistant referee to disallow Mike Oduor’s goal after being flagged offside, but was generally happy with the balance of the game, describing it as ‘a fair game’

The Ingwe captain speaks about what it is like to work under the former Simba coach.
“We scored a goal which was undeservedly disallowed,” he said, “a cross from the right wing cannot be an offside position but it is what it is,” he added.
“We created some chances but did not fully capitalize on them. The game was balanced. We got some chances but did not bury them. I am happy we did not lose and we are still at the top, but we are going to fight till the very end.”
Tusker remain top of the league with 65 points, just one ahead of Gor Mahia with three games to go.
