Victor Osimhen: 3 clubs that might rescue Nigerian striker after Napoli's TikTok blunder
Nigeria's Victor Osimhen was the hero last season as Napoli were crowned Italian champions, but his future at the club is now hanging in the balance following a TikTok misstep.
Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen ended a difficult week on a high after coming off the bench to give Napoli a 4-0 win over Lecce in their Italian Serie A action at Stadio Ettore Giardiniero on Saturday afternoon.
Osimhen's eventful week
Osimhen has had a difficult week after missing a penalty in the goalless draw against Bologna before Napoli’s TikTok account trolled him over the miss.
Napoli’s decision to troll him after the penalty miss left a bitter state in Osimhen’s mouth, with the club coming in for criticism from different quarters.
Osimhen did put the situation behind him after scoring in the 2-0 win over Udinese on Wednesday.
The Nigerian international then continued in the same vein on Saturday afternoon after coming off the bench to score in the 4-0 win over Lecce.
Napoli manager Rudi Garcia surprisingly left Osimhen on the bench, going for Giovanni Simeone up front.
The Neapolitans dominated possession from the start but never created clear chances, with Simeone struggling to impose himself.
Nonetheless, Napoli took the lead in the 22nd minute through Leo Ostigard’s header following a brilliant ball from Piotr Zielinski. Ostigard’s goal ensured the away side went into the break with the lead.
Osimhen starts second half dominance for Napoli
The second half started with Garcia taking off Simeone for Osimhen, and it took the Nigerian just six minutes to double Napoli’s advantage.
The Nigerian international headed in a brilliant cross from his partner in crime Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
