Nigerian champions Rangers have sent a lovely tribute to their fans after a winning start to the CAF Champions League.

Nigerian champions Enugu Rangers have paid tribute to their supporters after taking a crucial step towards advancing in the CAF Champions League with a narrow 1-0 victory over Zilimadjou in their preliminary round first leg match in Uyo.

The win marks a positive start for Nigerian clubs in the continental competition, with Remo Stars also securing a victory in their respective tie.

Uwumiro Frank emerged as the hero for the Flying Antelopes, netting the decisive goal in the 22nd minute. The strike proved enough to give Fidelis Ilechukwu's side a slim advantage heading into the second leg, which is also set to be played in Uyo next week.

Despite dominating the encounter from start to finish, the Flying Antelopes were unable to extend their lead, missing several opportunities to put the game beyond doubt.

This wastefulness in front of the goal could be a concern for the coaching staff as they prepare for the return fixture.

Following the victory, Enugu Rangers took to social media to express their gratitude to their travelling supporters. In a heartfelt message, the club stated:

Rangers fans cheering the Nigerian champions in Uyo.

"To our incredible fans who journeyed to Uyo, your unwavering support fuels our fire. The love you've shown is massive, and we don't take it for granted. Together, we rise, and together, we conquer. Thank you for being the heartbeat of this team."

As it stands, Rangers will enter the second leg as favourites to progress to the next round.

However, with only a single goal separating the sides, the tie remains delicately poised. The Nigerian champions will need to maintain their focus and potentially improve their finishing to ensure their journey in the CAF Champions League continues beyond this preliminary stage.

The success of both Enugu Rangers and Remo Stars in their opening fixtures bodes well for Nigerian football on the continental stage. NPFL fans will be eagerly anticipating the second leg matches to see if these positive results can be built upon.
