Netherlands legend Ruud Gullit believes one Real Madrid star must follow the example set by Argentina captain Lionel Messi.

Former Netherlands international Ruud Gullit has shared his thoughts following Vinicius Junior's red card against Valencia.

The altercation with the Valencia keeper resulted in a two-game ban.

The referee cited "hitting an opponent in the head deliberately, without the ball in play, and using non-negligible force" as the reason for the red card.

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti defended his star player but Gullit has chosen to go another route.

"I understand Vinicius feels like he got screwed by the goalkeeper, but that same behavior applies to Vinicius too," Gullit said during an appearance on Ziggo Sport.

"If you provoke the opponent, you simply can’t expect sympathy. You need to learn to shut up.

"Look at Messi, he got kicked all the time too, and he just got up and kept on playing."

Gullit also criticized Vinicius' constant complaining and provoking, saying it's a behavior that's bound to get him into trouble.

"But Vinicius constantly keeps complaining, constantly keeps provoking, toying with the opposite fans, yea.. then you are going to get it. And I’m sure Real Madrid tell him this too, but it looks like he just can’t let go of this behavior," he added.
