Tosin Adarabioyo, who Nigeria hope to bring into the Super Eagles fold was abysmal against Manchester City
Chelsea's new signing, Tosin Adarabioyo, found himself at the centre of fan criticism following a series of costly errors as Manchester City claimed an easy 4-2 victory over the Blues.
Chelsea lose again in pre-season
Erling Haaland got the Cityzens off to a flying start, netting a penalty in the opening three minutes of the match, before scoring again just two minutes later.
Oscar Bobb made it 3-0 in the 55th minute before Haaland added another. While Chelsea managed to hit back with goals from Raheem Sterling and Noni Madueke, the damage was already done.
For Pep Guardiola, the match was a satisfying end to an otherwise challenging pre-season tour. City had previously lost to Celtic, AC Milan, and Barcelona, making this victory a much-needed morale boost for the team.
Haaland's clinical performance was a highlight, but it also exposed weaknesses in Chelsea's defence, particularly in the performance of new signing Adarabioyo.
Adarabioyo slammed by fans after horror show
Chelsea signed Adarabioyo in the summer on a free transfer and the move was touted as a financial masterstroke. However, the 26-year-old's performance against Manchester City raised serious questions about his reliability.
Adarabioyo's mistake for City’s opener was just the beginning. Later in the match, he was caught on the ball by James McAtee after being too casual when chasing back to collect a ball, and the Blues could have easily conceded from another of his errors but for goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.
Fans were quick to criticise Adarabioyo on social media platform X. One user commented, "Why was Tosin Adarabioyo sleeping when that guy hijacked that ball?" Another added, "And the Tosin Adarabioyo guy 😂😂. See there's a reason why he was still at Fulham at the big age of 26."
A particularly scathing remark read, "You see Tosin Adarabioyo wey Chelsea sign…. I pity them."
The England youth international, who is being chased by the Nigerian football Federation as a potential addition to the Super Eagles will need to significantly improve his performances to win over the Chelsea faithful and justify his transfer.
