Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola fired back at Arsenal's manager and defender.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola bore his teeth in the latest press conference as he picked up the gauntlet following daring words from Arsenal defender Gabriel Maghalaes.

What happened

Arsenal have gone ahead with Manchester City for the Premier League title in the last season, and in both campaigns, the Gunners fell short.

They are billed to compete for glory this season again; hence, their first league meeting last week was stiffly contested, and there were moments when emotions boiled over.

One such was when Erling Haaland threw the ball at Gabriel after John Stones earned Manchester City a late equaliser in the eventual 2-2 draw. Following the game, the Brazilian centre-back was asked about the incident, and he laid down the gauntlet by saying, "As I said, battle, war, provocation is normal in football and it is part of the game. It's over now. Now we are waiting for them at our ground."

What Guardiola said

The Manchester City manager has now replied on behalf of his team, saying they were ready to go to war.

“You want a war? Now we war,” Guardiola said. “Gabriel said it perfectly after the match. He said: This is a war; we have here to provoke the opponent, to push them. At the end, what can you do? So, we have to, okay, you provoke me, okay, I'm there!”

Pep also had words for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, who alluded to being privy of Manchester City secrets after his team were accused of engaging in ‘dark arts’ following their 2-2 draw.

“Next time he has to be more clear exactly what does it mean,” Guardiola said.

“Mikel said he was here four years and we know exactly what happened here, because it can be related in all the process now with 155 charges, maybe it's about that, he knows information about that maybe. Next time, like a good relation I have with him, hopefully, this question has clear answer.”
