Enyimba and their young coach Yemi Olanrewaju will be Nigeria's representative in the CAF competition after overcoming Etoile Filante.

Nigeria's Enyimba, under the guidance of youthful coach Yemi Olanrewaju, have dramatically secured their place in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage after a nail-biting penalty shootout victory over Etoile Filante of Burkina Faso in Uyo.

The People's Elephants, who will be Nigeria's sole representatives in the competition, emerged victorious with a 3-2 win on penalties after both legs of the tie ended in a goalless stalemate on Sunday.

The result came despite Enyimba's dominance throughout the match, where they struggled to capitalise on their chances and home advantage.

In a tense shootout that saw both sides miss multiple spot-kicks, Enyimba held their nerve, converting three penalties while their Burkinabe opponents could only manage two successful attempts.

Enyimba dominated but failed to convert their chances.

The dramatic conclusion was a fitting end to a closely contested tie that remained deadlocked at 0-0 on aggregate after 180 minutes of football.

Coach Yemi Olanrewaju, one of the younger tacticians in the competition, will be relieved to see his side progress after a challenging encounter.

The result is a testament to Enyimba's resilience and Olanrewaju's ability to guide his team through high-pressure situations.

However, the news wasn't as positive for all Nigerian clubs in continental competition. Rangers FC saw their CAFCL journey come to an end following a 3-1 defeat to Sagrada Esperanca of Angola, highlighting the challenges faced by Nigerian clubs in African competitions.

Enyimba's qualification ensures that Nigeria will have representation in the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The dramatic nature of their qualification, coupled with the disappointment of Rangers' exit, shows the fine margins in African club football.

Enyimba will now look to build on this hard-fought victory as they aim to make a significant impact in the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup.
