The Premier League, Serie A, Europa League, FA Cup, and League Cup winner joins the Toffees on a free transfer.

Former Manchester United captain Ashley Young has explained why he chose to sign for Everton despite their recent struggle in the Premier League.

In the last two seasons, the Toffees survived relegation by a whisker, but Young has become their first signing of the transfer window. The England international has now opened up about why he chose to move to the Merseyside club after his contract with Aston Villa ended.

"Ashley Young has become Everton’s first signing of the summer on a free transfer, agreeing a one-year deal until the end of June 2024," Everton said after confirming Young's arrival.

Sean Dyche, who was appointed Everton's manager last season, played a key role in helping Young make the decision to sign for the Toffees.

"I'm delighted to be an Everton player and to have joined this massive club. I can’t wait for the season to start, and walking out at Goodison Park is going to be an unbelievable feeling, as is hearing the passionate fans behind me," the full-back-turned-winger said.

"The manager was important in my signing. I know him and know what his passion and desire are like. His honesty, his will to work hard, and his hunger for the game are second to none.

"I know things haven’t gone too well for Everton in the past couple of seasons, but the manager’s ambition, speaking to him and hearing what he wants to do to change the Club around, was a key factor in my decision."

He has made 422 Premier League appearances and ranks 15th in the competition’s all-time assists with 71.
