Zambia to miss Olympics?
According to a Guardian report, president of FAZ, Andre Kamanga, has been charged by the country’s drug enforcement commission for obtaining government funds under false pretences.
Kamanga was also accused of being part of a conspiracy to defraud the government after allegedly using the money to fund trips for two associates to the AFCON 23 in Cote d’Ivoire.
The FAZ chief was not the only official of the association charged as he is joined by general secretary, Reuben Kamanga, Madalitso Kamanga and Jairous Siame.
Per the report, FIFA addressed FAZ via its member associations officer Kenny Jean-Marie to inform them that the world football governing body has taken an interest in the matter.
FIFA is said to have requested for copies of any documents received in relation to Kamanga’s accusations.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the infringement of Article 19 paragraph 1 of the FIFA statutes and Article 7 paragraph 1.g of CAF statutes may give rise to grounds for the suspension of FAZ irrespective of whether the infringement was attributed to FAZ or not,” FIFA stated.
Zambia ended Morocco’s dream to be in the summer Olympics but could face possible suspension from FIFA following the actions of FAZ president.
