Logarusic believes that Kenyan football can fulfill its untapped potential which has yet to be exploited after his Kenya Police side beat Ulinzi Stars in front of a sizable crowd.

Kenya Police FC head coach Zdravko Logarusic believes the country “is a sleeping giant” in football after he oversaw his charges' 2-0 victory over Ulinzi Stars at the Police Sacco Stadium on Friday afternoon.

Police needed brilliant goals from Francis Kahata and Abud Omar to give them all three points and storm into the top half of the table on 14 points, just eight behind league leaders Posta Rangers.

Speaking after the match, Logaruisic praised his team’s effort and work ethic in delivering all the three points.

“Ulinzi gave us a hard time. We tried our best in the moment,” Logarusic said. “We were not lucky. I think we put in a lot of effort inside. I think we had a good second half because we put in a good effort,” he added.

“In the second half, we changed some positions in the team and we changed the system. We put a speedy player in front of Tyson (Otieno) and then secured the midfield a little more with (Kenneth) Muguna.

“We made some moves and those moves paid off.”

Logarusic also praised the fans who turned up at the Police Sacco Stadium, further saying that Kenya has a lot of untapped potential in football that needs to be exploited both at the club and national team level.

“The fans were thrilled today. They were happy together with how we approached the game. That is what we need. I saw a lot of fans and that is what we need to do. Today, some players showed individual brilliance.

“That is what I saw. I always say that Kenya is a sleeping giant. We have to wake up the Kenya national team and Kenyan football and everything will be okay.”

Kenya Police’s hopes of securing a league title now look realistic heading into the international break should they maintain their momentum while their fellow title rivals slip.
