WPL Zetech Sparks out to humble City Queens as Bunyore tackle Kangemi Ladies

Festus Chuma 08:30 - 07.05.2023

The Students and Bunyore are battling the drop from the league as both teams are two points above the relegation zone.

A rejuvenated Zeteck Sparks will battle with an improving Nakuru City Queens side at the GEMS Cambridge Grounds on Sunday afternoon.

Sparks picked up a third successive victory on the bounce when they defeated Kayole Starlets 4-1 last weekend to keep their hopes of saving Football Kenya Federation Women’s Premier League status.

Bernard Kitolo-coached side is placed seventh on the log and is just two points away from the relegation zone.

A victory over Queens will see the Students move closer to the top six teams as they will be six points adrift of Thika Queens with four matches left.

However, Sparks will take on City Queens, who still have an outside chance to win the title as they are currently fifth on the log.

Coach Christine Wesonga and his technical team will be keen to lead Queens to a victory which would see his side reduce the gap between them and table leaders Gaspo to nine points.

Meanwhile, the already relegated Kangemi Ladies side will lock horns with a wounded Bunyore Starlets at the Mumboha Grounds in Luanda.

Kangemi extended their winless run to 16 matches in the league when they fell 5-2 to Trans Nzoia Falcons away last weekend.

As a result, Kangemi is placed 11th on the league standings with -3 points for having forfeited one match against Kayole Starlets on April 9.

Kangemi will face off against a Bunyore side that will be looking to return to winning ways after falling 3-1 to Gaspo Women last weekend.

When the teams met earlier this season, at Camp Toyoyo Ground in January, Bunyore claimed a 6-0 win thanks to Madalina Airin, who scored four goals, while Noel Shilachilo and Maria Ambilia scored a goal each.

In the third match of the day, Trans Nzoia Falcons will be all out to collect maximum points when they face bottom-placed Kayole Starlets at Ndura Sports Complex in Kitale.

Falcons have won seven of the 17 matches played this season and are currently placed on the spot on the log with 19 points.

On the other hand, Starlets have only won one match, lost all of their last ten appearances, and conceded 58 goals.
