Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has clarified why he recorded a song named ‘Don’t Shoot’ while partnering with his colleagues Chuba Akpom and Medy Elito.

Iwobi wrote the song over the summer break after having a huge influence on Fulham in the 2023–2024 campaign.

The midfielder scored five goals and provided two assists for Fulham in the Premier League, helping the team finish in 13th place and advance to the Carabao Cup semifinals.

The former Arsenal player claims that the song's lyrics are meant to encourage young people to set greater, more ambitious objectives for themselves and to combat the harmful inclinations of London's youth.

According to the Evening Standard, Alex Iwobi stated, “Growing up in London, there is a lot of criminal activity, things that you don’t want to see or hear.

“With our powers, we are trying to say don’t do that, channel it into something else. Whether it is football or music, anything that keeps you on the straight path is what we are trying to show everyone.

“it was something where my friends agreed that the music is actually decent, why don’t you release it?’

“So, we thought let’s release it at the right time and not get distracted, because the main focus will always be football But at the same time, I am more than just a footballer. I am human, like everyone else. ”

Alex Iwobi has always loved music, but his buddies convinced him to record a song even though he had no intention of doing so.

The Super Eagles star is also a big fan of popular Nigerian artist Wizkid after singing his song word for word in a recent interview.

Iwobi plans to focus exclusively on football as the new season approaches, starting with Fulham against Manchester United in the Premier League on August 16.
