Yamal’s grandmother is concerned for her safety in Barcelona following the recent violence against her son.

In the heart of Rocafonda lies the escalating threats faced by Lamine Yamal and his family.

The 17-year-old Spanish sensation has risen to superstardom after shinning for Spain on the international stage.

However, Yamal’s new status has reportedly ignited backlash from some members of the Moroccan community.

In a recent interview with Espejo Público, she openly expressed her fears of further violence, her resilience shines through.

"Now with this Mounir I can't eat. I have my stomach closed from the impression, from the fright," she said, adding that "they are also jealous of us."

Despite the tension she is going through, Fatima is not scared.

"If they want to kill me, I'm here," she said, reflecting both her love for her grandson and her desire to remain rooted in the community that has shaped her life.

Yet, the pressures stemming from her grandson's rising fame have transformed a once-supportive neighborhood into a place of hostility, jealousy and resentment.

Amid the challenges, Fatima’s love for her grandson remains unwavering. “I love him very much,” she declared.

In addition, Yamal’s grandmother also spoke on the unfairness of the situation because of the little doubt about Lamine’s nationality.

"He was born here [Spain], he studied here, that child [Lamine] is not from Morocco, do you understand me?

“My son [Mounir] hasn't forced him to do anything. He has played with Morocco, he has played with France, he has played with Spain...Where he wanted," she told a journalist via the aforementioned outlet.

While Fatima argues passionately for recognition of her grandson's right to choose his national allegiance, asserting that he has every right to play for Spain, where he was born and raised, her heartfelt words highlight broader issues of identity within multicultural communities.
