LeBron James broke another record off the court as his game-worn 2013 NBA Finals jersey has reportedly sold for over a whopping N2.7 billion.
LeBron James is normally referred to as the ‘King’ for a reason, as his worn jersey from Game 7 of the 2013 NBA Finals just broke a record by selling for an incredible N2,756,500,000 ($3.7 million).
The iconic piece of history became Bron’s most expensive game-worn jersey to date after British-American multi-national broker Sotheby revealed the final selling price for it on Friday.
LeBron James wore this #6 jersey in the Miami Heat’s 98-88 victory over the San Antonio Spurs to win his second championship.
Being the first Game 7 of his NBA career and winning his second NBA Finals MVP award made it a truly memorable night for James.
Lebron James’ game-worn jersey makes history
This LeBron James jersey was one of the highest prices obtained for any game-worn jersey on the open market.
It sold for $3,680,000 at the auction, making it the third most expensive game-worn jersey ever sold at Sotheby’s.
According to Sotheby’s, a private collector bought it, as reported by TMZ Sports.
“Today’s tremendous result comes at a pivotal time in LeBron James’ career, where he is in arm’s reach of clenching the all-time points record one of the NBA’s most revered accolades,” Sotheby’s officials said on Friday.
LeBron James: Billionaire for a reason
As previously reported by AfroTech, memorabilia plays a role in James’s billionaire status.
The Lakers star already topped the 2021 list of highest-paid athletes in the world only second to Argentine football icon Lionel Messi.
In 2021, he reportedly managed to draw in N30,694,000,000 ($41.2 million) and it wasn’t just from his business on the court.
In fact, he reportedly made off-the-court projects 59,600,000,000 ($80 million) in 2021 and included everything from endorsements to appearances to memorabilia and licensing fees and beyond.
The 38-year-old has been balling in the NBA season breaking all sorts of records amid the Lakers’ underwhelming form this season.
