Mendy made a shocking revelation amid his legal battle with former club Manchester City.
Benjamin Mendy has come out swinging with explosive claims about his time at Manchester City.
The former Blues star revealed that “several” of his teammates—including the club captain—were regulars at his alcohol-fueled parties where they "all had casual relations with women."
This bombshell confession comes amid the 30-year-old’s legal battle against his former club.
Mendy dragged Man City to a tribunal, seeking a whopping £11 million in unpaid wages after being frozen out by the club while facing rape and sexual assault charges, for which he was later acquitted.
According to Mendy, his teammates were far from innocent when it came to attending these wild parties.
“Several Manchester City first-team players, including the club captain, were all present at the parties that I attended and hosted,” Mendy was quoted to have said as per The Telegraph.
“We all drank alcohol. We all had casual relations with women. We all breached Covid-19 restrictions. This does not excuse my behaviour, but I feel that it is unfair for Manchester City to single me out in the way that they have.”
Mendy, who has since resumed his career with Lorient in France, said the treatment he received from Manchester City was unjust and that he was unfairly scapegoated.
"The difference between me and the other Manchester City players is that I was the one that was falsely accused of rape and publicly humiliated," he added, hinting at some serious hypocrisy within the club's ranks.
Mendy calls out Man City, insists the club knew about his wild parties
But Mendy didn’t stop there.
The French defender is now taking action against City, claiming they knew all along that other top players were involved in these booze-fueled get-togethers. The club, however, decided to single him out after his high-profile arrest.
“I can’t help but feel that the club are trying to paint a narrative that I was acting recklessly, and my alleged recklessness led to me being arrested for crimes I did not commit," he said as per the aforementioned publication.
"I was doing nothing different than several of Manchester City's first-team players.”
Mendy also threw shade at Manchester City's decision to suspend him without pay during the two-year legal battle, which included a trial and retrial. His £6 million-a-year salary was cut off from September 2021 until his contract with the club ended in June 2023.
“I was just as ready, willing, and able to perform my duties as the other Manchester City players that Manchester City knew attended the parties, and on Manchester City's account, acted recklessly,” Mendy told the Telegraph.
“I am not, however, aware of Manchester City deducting or suspending the pay of any of the other players, even when it was public knowledge that such players had attended the parties."
Now, the former World Cup winner is fighting back, demanding his missing millions and calling out what he sees as unfair treatment by the club.
Mendy insists that while he was punished and left without pay, no action was taken against his teammates who engaged in the same behaviour.
“I feel it incredibly unjust that Manchester City effectively singled me out from the team when I was doing nothing different to the rest of the team,” Mendy continued.
Although Mendy made 15 appearances for Lorient last season, he has struggled to establish a place at the Ligue 2 side as the club’s new manager, Olivier Pantaloni, has frozen him out, leaving his future uncertain.
