Alex Pereira has been a real nuisance in the UFC division since making his debut in 2021.

Brazilian UFC fighter Alex Pereira is widely regarded as one of the best pound for pound fighters in MMA.

The 36-year-old former kickboxer clinched the UFC Middleweight title in record time after famously defeating Israel Adesanya in round five via technical knockout one year after making his promotional debut.

However, he lost the immediate rematch with with his Nigerian rival by second round knockout in April 2023.

Since his defeat, Pereira has stepped up to the Light Heavyweight division where he’s already claimed the division’s title with a win over Jiri Prochazka via second round technical knockout at UFC 295 in November 2023.

Year after year, Pereira has added a new UFC title to his collection, and his mentor and former Light Heavyweight champion, Glover Teixeira, has even tipped him for further success in the UFC.

At 4:08 of the second round on Sunday, November 12, in the main event of UFC 295, Pereira defeated Jiri Prochazka with a quick left uppercut and some ground and pound to win the light heavyweight title.

Pereira has proven to be one of the most lethal strikers in all of mixed martial arts (MMA) since he put retiring from his kickboxing career in 2020.

And his mentor, Glover Teixeira, believes he could eventually move up to the heavyweight division.

“If he were to move up, he would change his diet and training routine outside the camp to gain mass,” Teixeira told MMA Fighting

“‘Poatan’ walks around 233 pounds and I think he can go to 246, but not [over that], you know? I think 242 would be good.”

“It’s all a process,” Teixeira said. “‘Poatan’ is a disciplined professional, and that’s why he managed to make 185 in the first place. It’s not easy for anyone to do what he did. Few people can manage that.

“I’m not saying few people can fight in the UFC, much less win the belt, but to do what he did, losing that much weight, not many can do,” he continued. “In the UFC, I’d say only 10 percent of the fighters can do that weight cut the way he did. It was very brutal, but ‘Poatan’ has the discipline for it.”

Alex Pereira recently hinted that he could find himself training with his rival and former UFC Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya.

The Brazilian UFC light-heavyweight champion suggested that he and Izzy could train in future despite their fierce rivalry in the Octagon.

Pereira posted a montage of his rivalry with Adesanya on Instagram, telling the former UFC middleweight champion to watch the video and not underestimate the potential of others.

“This is not personal with Israel Adesanya, I would even train with him in the future, but Adesanya gotta watch this video so he will never underestimate someone’s potential again! P.S. Poatan – 2 division champion,” Pereira captioned the post.

After winning the UFC light-heavyweight title last month,  Pereira called out Adesanya, to move up in the 205-pound division for a third fight in the UFC and settle their unfinished business inside the Octagon since their head-to-head MMA record is one-apiece.
