Nigerian Stylebender Israel Adesanya says he is not leaving despite 1st submission to South Africa's Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 305.

At UFC 305 in Perth, Nigeria's Israel Adesanya's attempt to begin a third reign as middleweight champion was unsuccessful, and he suffered his first career submission loss.

The 35-year-old had not been seen in an octagon since losing the title to Sean Strickland in September of last year. His reign was abruptly cut short when he was defeated by Dricus du Plessis of South Africa in January.

And thanks to a remarkable development in the fourth round of the UFC on Sunday, du Plessis has now increased his victory streak to eight fights.

When exhaustion set in during the fourth round, both competitors were struggling, but in a matter of seconds, du Plessis changed the course of the battle.

Adesanya was caught off guard by his three consecutive blows, so he wrapped up fast when du Plessis saw his chance.

After Adesanya was tackled by Du Plessis from behind holding his neck, the former champion gave up and tapped for a submission.

Following their brief exchange, Adesanya approached the camera to assure his followers that he will return.

Adesanya reacts to Du Plessis loss

Speaking to Daniel Cormier after the loss Adesanya said, “To be honest I always knew he was going to be tough to put away. It wasn’t a surprise.

“But I was quite strong in there. I felt strong, able to resist his takedowns. I just made a dumb, stupid mistake on the ground and he got me.

“I didn’t manifest this (losing).

“Look I know everyone loves me, this is where I started my career in the UFC, right here in Perth. But I’m 35, I’m doing the right things.
