Former UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya recently made headlines with his return to Nigeria after his latest UFC bout.

Despite losing to South Africa's Dricus du Plessis, Adesanya was met with overwhelming support from fans in his homeland and during his visit, he opened up about how his faith has played a crucial role in his career and personal life.

Stylebender reveals role of faith in his life

Adesanya, also known as "The Last Stylebender," shared how faith has been a cornerstone in both his life and career in a recent interview, stating, "Faith is something you have to have in this life. You can’t walk by sight; you have to walk by faith.”

He further explained that while he prepares rigorously for fights through training and hard work, the outcome is never guaranteed and his faith is what often sees him through.

When asked how he prepares for bouts, Adesanya replied, “I prepare for a fight through training, hardwork and again like I said, you don’t really know what the outcome is going to be, but you have to have faith.

“So faith is something that I hold on to in general. In all aspects of my life, even in my career.”

Adesanya faces mixed bag of emotions during Nigeria visit

Despite not having a UFC title around his waist, the Nigerian-New Zealander was celebrated by his supporters, and even enjoyed local delicacies while experiencing Lagos' vibrant nightlife.

However, his visit wasn't without controversy as Adesanya faced criticism after making a comment during his stay, referring to women in Lagos as prostitutes. The remark sparked backlash, casting a shadow over his otherwise joyous homecoming.
