The Pearl Rally is the most prestigious event on the FMU calendar and attracts drivers from beyond the borders.

KCB Bank Uganda and FMU announced a sponsorship package of Ushs. 80m ahead of the Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally.

The bank is the second partner to be announced by the federation, following Tuesday's announcement of Shell V-Power as the title sponsor.

The announcement was made Wednesday morning in a press conference held at Haandi Restaurant in Kampala.

"KCB has for many years supported sports and other people-centric initiatives that uplift communities in our country and the East African region," KCB Head of Marketing and Communications Diana Komukama Ssempebwa told the press.

It is the third round of the Africa Rally Championship and allows drivers to score points in the fight for continental silverware.

Kenya's Karan Patel and Leroy Gomes are the two foreign drivers that lit up areas of Lugazi in last year's event.

But the crew of Jas Mangat and Joseph Kamya cruised to victory in front of the home crowd.

FMU President Dipu Rupareila acknowledged the magnitude of the KCB's support for the event.

"We appreciate our continued partnership with KCB Bank for these years, and together we hope to develop motorsport in Uganda," Rupareila noted.

This year's event will traverse areas of Jinja, Kakira, Source of the Nile, Bujagali and Kamuli Road.

Being a rainy season, the wet conditions are expected to make the routes even more challenging for the various drivers to get the best out of them.

KCB also confirmed partnering and bankrolling drivers Micheal Mukula Jr. and Oscar Ntambi.
