The seven-time champions is enduring a terrible start to his Ferrari career.

Lewis Hamilton’s promising weekend in Shanghai ended in bitter disappointment as he was disqualified from the Chinese Grand Prix for breaching strict Formula 1 regulations.

The seven-time world champion, who had earlier celebrated victory in the Sprint Race, finished sixth in the feature race, only to see his result wiped from the classification due to a technical infringement.

Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc and Alpine’s Pierre Gasly also suffered the same fate, with all three drivers being removed from the final results.

According to a statement released by the FIA, Hamilton’s Ferrari was found to be in violation of Article 3.5.9 of the technical regulations, which mandates a minimum plank thickness of 9mm.

Post-race investigations revealed his car’s plank assembly measured 8.6mm, prompting an automatic disqualification.

“The plank assembly of Car 44 was measured and found to be 8.6mm (LHS), 8.6mm (car centreline) and 8.5mm (RHS),” the FIA stated as per The Sun.

“This is below the minimum thickness of 9mm… The Stewards determine that Article 3.5.9 of the FIA Formula 1 Technical Regulations has been breached and therefore the standard penalty of a disqualification needs to be applied for such an infringement.”

Ferrari admitted responsibility, conceding that the breach was a "genuine error" and that no mitigating circumstances could be argued.

Hamilton and Leclerc’s disqualification wiped out their respective points for finishing sixth and fifth, significantly denting their championship hopes.

With both drivers losing crucial ground in the standings, Haas’ Esteban Ocon and Ollie Bearman moved up two positions each, finishing fifth and eighth respectively.

Similarly, Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli and Williams’ Alex Albon climbed up the order.

Pierre Gasly’s disqualification further reshuffled the classification, benefiting Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll and Williams’ Carlos Sainz, who both moved up into the points-paying positions.

Gasly, alongside Leclerc, was found to have breached the minimum car weight limit of 800kg, leading to his exclusion from the final results.

Hamilton’s frustrations were evident even before his disqualification, as he clashed with Ferrari’s race engineer Riccardo Adami during the Grand Prix.

Meanwhile, McLaren celebrated a historic weekend, with Oscar Piastri securing his third career victory and leading Lando Norris to a commanding one-two finish.

The result marked McLaren’s 50th one-two finish in Formula 1, underlining their growing strength as title contenders.
