Estonian Ott Tänak took top honours in the opening of the rally, SSS1 to get his quest for a maiden African victory off to a flying start on the opening stage.
Reflecting on his performance, Tanak revealed the unexpected hurdles he faced on the stage.
"There is no story," he said with a hint of amusement. "First, there was a pig on the road who didn't go away, then we had a group of zebras, so we had to stop for them a few times," he said.
The Safari Rally, known for its unique and challenging terrain, lived up to its reputation as Tanak encountered wildlife that added an extra twist to the competition.
Navigating through the unforgiving track while sharing the road with the local fauna proved to be an exhilarating test of Tanak's driving skills.
