Renowned rally co-driver has passed away at 56, over a decade after surviving a tragic accident that claimed his famed partner's life.

The motorsports community is mourning the sad news of the passing of Sayed Kadri who died at the age of 56 in Kampala, Uganda.

Kadri, a revered figure in East African motorsports, was a staple in the adrenaline-fueled races of the Safari Rally alongside the late rally ace Riyaz Kurji. 

Together, they competed in numerous editions of the Safari Rally, one of the most challenging and prestigious events in the African Rally Championship series. 

His partnership with Kurji was nothing short of legendary, with the duo showcasing exceptional skill and determination on the rally tracks.

The pinnacle of their career came with significant achievements, including memorable performances on the Kenyan coast, where they clinched second overall in the Safari Rally, marking a notable moment in the 2004 African Rally Championship. 

Their prowess was further highlighted with consecutive wins at the Mombasa Rally in 2006 and 2007, as well as their triumph at the Guru Nanak Rally.

Tragedy struck in 2009 when Kadri and Kurji were involved in a severe accident during a rally event. 

While Kadri survived, the motorsports world was left reeling from the loss of Kurji.

Despite the tragedy, Kadri's legacy as a co-driver and his contributions to motorsports remained undisputed.

Ugandan publication Hapa Sports reported Kadri's passing, stating, "Sad news coming in Sayeed Kadri the once a co-driver to late speed starlet Riyaz Kurji has passed on this afternoon may his soul rest in eternal peace." 

As the motorsports community comes together to remember Sayed Kadri, tributes pour in from all corners of the globe, honoring a navigator whose life was as vibrant and thrilling as the races he once navigated. 

His passing is not only a loss to his family and friends but to the entire motorsports fraternity, which has lost one of its brightest stars.
