The rally star Sebastien Ogier was hospitalized following a crash during pre-race preparations missing the upcoming Rally Poland.

Eight-time world rally champion Sebastien Ogier will miss this weekend's Rally Poland following a significant road accident during a reconnaissance mission.

Ogier and his co-driver, Vincent Landais, were involved in a collision while preparing for one of the event's stages, leading to hospitalization for both.

The accident occurred on Tuesday morning as the Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT crew members were scouting the Goldap special stage, crucial for the weekend’s rally.

It was during this routine preparation, driving a standard road car equipped with GPS to ensure speed compliance, that their vehicle collided with another containing two civilians.

Toyota Gazoo Racing released a detailed statement following the incident:

“Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT crew Sébastien Ogier and Vincent Landais were taken to hospital for checks following a road traffic collision during reconnaissance for Rally Poland on Tuesday morning. Two occupants of the other vehicle involved, members of the public, were also taken to hospital for medical checks."

Thankfully, initial scans indicated that there were no serious injuries among those involved.

While Landais was able to leave the hospital, Ogier remained for further observation to ensure his health and safety.

The team emphasized, “All involved have undergone scans which showed no serious injuries. While Landais has been discharged, Ogier will remain under medical observation overnight and will not be able to participate in the event."

The loss of Ogier from the lineup is a significant blow to the team and his fans worldwide.

Known for his skill and precision Ogier's absence will undoubtedly be felt at the Rally.

The team statement highlighted their priorities following the accident.

“The safety and wellbeing of all involved remains the utmost priority of the team. Alongside this, the team is considering its options regarding any replacement and will provide an update in due course," added.

In response to the unexpected event, Toyota Gazoo Racing has been granted permission for Kalle Rovanpera and Jonne Halttunen to replace Ogier and Landais for the remainder of the rally.

This change marks a significant shift in the team dynamics and strategy for the upcoming races.
