Lewis Hamilton announces his departure from Mercedes with a record-breaking victory in the British Grand Prix Formula 1 race.

The Formula 1 driver claimed his first victory in 945 days in front of a jubilant British Grand Prix crowd.

Hamilton passed Michael Schumacher's record for most victories at a single circuit, which stood at eight, having last won since Saudi Arabia 2021.

The British driver struggled to control his tears and emotions as he ascended the podium to pick up his prize.

The emotional Hamilton spoke during the celebration about wanting to win the race which is his last race for Mercedes.

As Sky Sports reported, Hamilton said, "This is my last race here at the British Grand Prix with this team. So I wanted to win this so much for them because I love them.

“I appreciate them so much. To everyone in this team, everyone at Mercedes, and all of our partners, and then otherwise to all our incredible fans. 

“I could see you lap by lap as I was coming around, and there's just no greater feeling than finishing at the front here." 

The F1 driver became the only driver in Formula 1 history to win the most races at a single track with his ninth victory at this specific track.

This season will be Hamilton's last race with Mercedes after his contract expires, as he leaves for Ferrari in 2025.

Hamilton shocked the racing world by announcing his decision to join Ferrari in 2025, leaving Mercedes after 12 years.

He identified his new F1 team as his reason for moving to Ferrari, saying that he needed a fresh challenge.
