As the demand for sports infrastructure rises, Uganda has committed to building at least three netball courts that meet international standards.

Uganda Netball Federation Ag. President Brig. Flavia Byekwaso made the revelation while hosting the Head World Netball- Africa Development Joan Smith.

Byekwaso stated that Smith, on her visit to assess Uganda's preparedness for the World Cup slated for July-August, Cape Town, South Africa, highly recommended that Uganda construct sprung floor surfaces.

"Joan Smith came with blessings, and she noticed the need for the sprung floor for our netball courts," she said.

"The minister of sports Hon. Ogwang committed that the government has no hindrances in fulfilling the recommendation.

He directed NCS to ensure the construction of the sprung floor courts. The target is to have three courts," she added.

If it is the case, this won't be the first time a sitting sports minister promises to have standard sports facilities constructed, but none is yet to come to life.

Byekwaso highlighted that the sprung floor systems would enable Uganda to host international games.

"The advantages of the sprung floor will boost tourism since Uganda can host international games."

The revelations comes at a time when Uganda has one indoor facility that does not meet international standards, and the other being constructed at Makerere University still needs to be completed.

According to World Netball, all international netball events (Netball World Cup, Netball World Youth Cup, Commonwealth Games, Fast5 NWS) are now played in indoor arenas on sprung wooden floors.

The sprung systems provide excellent comfort and support for players and reduce injuries.
